As parents of Araceli Saucedo who was selected for an Educational Trust award at De Anza Junior High School in 2004, Peter and Araceli Saucedo did not realize how much their lives would change as their daughter continues her educational journey in college. This past year they and their daughter participated in several events to educate other families about the path to college.

On May 31, 2008 as invited guests of the University of California San Diego (UCSD), Mr. and Mrs. Saucedo spoke at “Comienza con un Sueno” (Start with a Dream), an event for Hispanic students attending 6th through12th grades in middle school and high school. They were guest speakers in a “Parent to Parent Panel” workshop at which they shared all the information about the road to college efforts they had lived. On November 5 they made a similar presentation at the invitation of Poway High school in San Diego County.

Now in her 2nd year at UCSD, Araceli is pursuing her dreams with a major in Structural Engineering. She used the GEAR UP Educational Trust award to cover the cost of a Six Week Intensive Summer Session in Engineering. Although she has a busy college schedule, Araceli is willing to be a Student Ambassador to share her college experience and the steps to get there with middle school students at GEAR UP schools.
