Counseling Institute Facilitators: Linda Loya and Qiana Patterson

Linda Loya taught junior high school Spanish for two years, spent 35 years at Huntington Park High School, teaching Spanish and then served from 1986 to 2005 as college counselor.  After retirement from full time work, she was a college counseling consultant for Gage Middle School. She has worked extensively with immigrant students and their parents and has provided college counseling training for new counselors in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Qiana Patterson was a teacher and Dean of Students at Burroughs Middle School in Los Angeles Unified School District.  She also was the GEAR UP site contact, overseeing the school site implementation.  Currently she is a Project Manager for Educational Networks, a website development company, serving school districts and other educational organizations.  Qiana is also a facilitator for the California GEAR UP Family Initiatives Project.
